Carbon Net Zero Commitment

Woodcote Medical is dedicated to supporting the NHS’s net-zero by 2050 ambition and will take meaningful action to reduce our carbon footprint across both our surgeries.

Current Objectivesnetzero

  • Communicating Our Green Plan: to help us meet our sustainability goals, we are setting up a Green Team who will communicate and promote our goals with staff, patients and the wider community
  • Greener Practice Network: we have signed up to the Greener Practice Network, which will help us to learn from best practices and we are currently working towards accreditation
  • CO₂ Reduction: We have used the GP Carbon Calculator to measure our baseline data and will use this to measure the impact of our changes. We are currently working towards reducing our baseline carbon footprint by 15% by 2027.

Key Areas of Action

•    Decrease Energy Consumption: We have introduced measures to help reduce energy usage, this includes the education of staff and the replacement of old lights with LED fittings
•    Local Procurement & Supply Chain: We are auditing the purchase and use of medical consumables and are switching to local and sustainable suppliers to reduce transport emissions and support our community
•    Sustainable Staff Travel: we have carried out a staff survey and are actively encouraging our employees to participate in the cycle-to-work scheme, which will not only reduce transport-related emissions but also support healthier lifestyle choices. We also promote remote working where possible
•    Single-Use Plastics Reduction: We are committed to reducing single-use plastics and are increasing the use of reusable alternatives
•    Recycling: We have a WEEE (Waste electrical and electronic equipment) contract in place to ensure that electronic waste is properly recycled, preventing harmful environmental impacts from improper disposal. We are carrying out a waste audit to ensure items are segregated correctly prior to collection
•    Improving Inhaler Impact: We promote the use of lower-carbon inhalers and educate patients on proper inhaler disposal
•    Sustainable Care Models: We adopt care models that minimise environmental impact, including digital consultations and preventative care initiatives.
•    Digitisation of processes: We are digitising our processes to improve document retrieval and cut down on the amount of paperwork.
