What is mumps? Mumps is caused by a virus. Symptoms include fever, headache and painful, swollen glands in the face, neck and jaw. Complications include hearing loss, meningitis, encephalitis and painful swelling of the testicles and ovaries.
What is rubella? In children rubella is usually mild and can cause a rash, swollen glands and a sore throat. If pregant women catch rubella, it can affect their unborn baby, causing serious damage to their sight, hearing, heart and brain.
What is chickenpox? Chickenpox is a very infectious disease, which is common in young children and causes a fever and an itchy, spotty rash. Some children have serious complications including chest infection, fits and encephalitis. Later in life, the chickenpox vacine can re-activate and cause a painful rash called shingles.
Accessible Information Standard
The Accessible Information Standard aims to ensure that disabled people have access to information they can understand and the communication support they may need. The Standard applies to service providers across the NHS and adult social care system. As organisations that provide NHS services, GP practices are required by law to follow the Standard under Section 250 of the Health and Social Care Act.
We want to get better at communicating with our patients and ensure you can read and understand the information we send you. If you find it hard to read our letters or if you need someone to support you at appointments, please let us know.
Please inform us of any accessibility requirements you have, as this will help us to make sure we get things right for you.

RSV Vaccine - protect yourself from serious lung infection
Millions of older people can now get protection against a virus which causes serious lung infections like bronchitis and pneumonia. Following the expansion of the RSV vaccination programme, the following patients are now eligible:
- all adults aged 80 and over (from April 2026)
- all adults aged 75-79
- people living in a care home for older adults
- pregnant women (from 28 weeks gestation)
RSV is not just a winter illness; it can occur all year round and can make older people seriously ill. The vaccine has been proven to drastically reduce the chance of patients developing a severe ilness and from ending up in hospital.
Please contact the surgery on 020 8763 5620 to book your vaccination.
